Good Morning Church Family!

Hey Northwood Berkeley!

It’s a crazy world we live in.  Our society labels wrong as right and right as wrong.  Many in the modern environmental movement worship creation instead of the Creator.  The Climate Change movement is content for humans to go bankrupt and starve to accomplish their ends. Killing babies is called reproductive rights. Think about that for a moment.  Port workers are on strike which will only add to already high inflation.  We see wars in Ukraine and Israel.  Some politicians seem to be encouraging World War III. This past week Hurricane Helene caused devastation in Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, the Upstate of South Carolina and especially Western North Carolina. Yep, it’s a crazy world!  It’s nice be reminded that God is in control!!  Consider Psalm 46.

God is our refuge and strength,
    a very present help in trouble.

Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way,
    though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea,
though its waters roar and foam,
    though the mountains tremble at its swelling. Selah

There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
    the holy habitation of the Most High.
God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved;
    God will help her when morning dawns.
The nations rage, the kingdoms totter;
    he utters his voice, the earth melts.
The Lord of hosts is with us;
    the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah

Come, behold the works of the Lord,
    how he has brought desolations on the earth.
He makes wars cease to the end of the earth;
    he breaks the bow and shatters the spear;
    he burns the chariots with fire.
“Be still and know that I am God.
    I will be exalted among the nations,
    I will be exalted in the earth!”
The Lord of hosts is with us;
    the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah

It’s good to be reminded that our Lord sits on the throne!! He is in control. May we always be reminded that God is our refuge and strength and that we can be still and know that He is God.

This Sunday morning, we will celebrate the Lord’s Supper. Please prepare your heart to worship.

Northwood Family of Churches Night of PrayerThis Sunday evening our Crave Student Ministry, Kingdom Kids, and Discipleships group will not meet. Northwood Baptist Berkeley will be hosting the Quarterly Family of Churches Night of prayer. Please join us Sunday evening at 5:00 p.m. as we pray together. Please bring your children. It is important for multi-generations to pray together.

Caring for the ElderlyOur congregation has been invited to minister to residents at the Wildcat Senior Living Facility in Cane Bay. On October 16 at 1:00 p.m. our congregation will be providing hope and encouragement to the residents of this facility. Please see Pastor Jim Packwood if you would like to participate. People of all ages are welcome to participate. This ministry is not only a great opportunity for our senior citizens to serve but also children and youth who may be homeschooled.

Covenant Sunday

On Sunday, October 27 we will be celebrating Covenant Sunday. Northwood Baptist Berkeley practices Covenant Membership. Every year church members are required to affirm their continued commitment to the church covenant to remain members. And yes, our homebound will be provided opportunities to sign the church covenant and members suffering from the ravages of memory care issues will be given a special dispensation of grace. Otherwise, to remain a member of Northwood Berkeley you must sign the church covenant on that Sunday or plan to bring your signed church covenant at a separate time if you are out of town that week. Covenant Sunday is also an opportunity for non-members to prayerfully consider the Lord’s leadership in joining our church family.

Fall Festival 2024Northwood Berkeley will be hosting a Fall Festival, on Saturday, November 2 from 3-5p.m. We will have games, jump castles, chili, popcorn, hotdogs, and face painting. Invite the community!

Western North Carolina is DecimatedOur friends in Western North Carolina are suffering! The community in which Linda grew up in has been decimated. This Sunday we are collecting a love offering and will be sending this love offering to the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Eddneyville, NC to distribute in their community as they deem necessary. Our grandson Caleb attends this church. Please designate checks in the Memo line as “Love Offering NC” Additionally, Eric has made some cross key chains. If you would like a cross key chain, please consider a donation amount to be used for Western NC Relief. These proceeds will also be sent to Mt. Moriah Baptist Church to help storm victims.

Grace to you,
Pastor Jay
