Good Morning Church Family!
Hey Northwood Baptist Berkeley,
This morning, I listened to a sermon delivered by Dr. Wes Fowler from the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary Chapel . The sermon was based on Mark 2:15-17, which says,
And as he reclined at table in his house, many tax collectors and sinners were reclining with Jesus and his disciples, for there were many who followed him. And the scribes of the Pharisees, when they saw that he was eating with sinners and tax collectors, said to his disciples, “Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?” And when Jesus heard it, he said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.
Dr. Fowler asked the chapel congregation a simple question. “Are you seeking who Christ is seeking?” Clearly Jesus came to seek and save the lost. Dr. Fowler shared some experiences he had as Pastor of a former church he pastored. Dr. Fowler indicated the deacons, leadership, and congregation as a whole were excited about the idea of reaching the lost for Christ but when it came to the reality of reaching out to the lost that weren’t as excited about the reality of the discomfort that has to take place to reach the unsaved. Church members said things like, “Do you know what kind of youth we are bringing into the church?” “Our church no longer feels like a safe space.” What about you? How uncomfortable are you willing to be to share the Gospel with the unsaved?
This past Saturday, several of you from our church gathered around a borrowed tent from Northwood Baptist Greenridge and participated in a community event in Cane Bay. Over sixty children were able to hear the Gospel through Gospel bracelets that were made, handed out, and explained. Over fifty persons were invited to worship with us at Northwood Berkeley. I’m thankful to Dave and Lindsay for heading that up. In the days ahead we will have an opportunity to share Christ with our friends, neighbors, and co-workers as well as invite them to church.
- On Thursday, April 17 our church will gather to worship for a Maundy Thursday Service at 6:30 p.m.
- We will have Life Connection Group at 9:30 a.m. And worship at 11:00 a.m. On Easter Sunday.
- Ms. Annette Bowers has ordered Northwood Berkeley door hangers. There will be an opportunity to prayer walk in the areas around our church. Stay tuned for details.
- On Saturday, April 26th at 7:00 p.m., our own Worship Minister Bryson Chandler’s band Kingdom Vessels will have a free concert at Northwood Baptist Berkeley. My friend Jacob Ard is slated to share the Gospel that evening.
Speaking of April 26th, we have a service opportunity I wish we didn’t have to announce. Eric White is getting a moving truck that Saturday morning. If you have a muscle or two, please join us at 10:00 a.m. At the White’s house in Foxbank Plantation. We can help the White’s load up their truck as the Lord has led their family back to the Detroit area.
While we hate to see the White’s move, we are excited to affirm Ed Troyo as our new Children’s Director this coming Sunday. We welcome both the Troyo family and Kevin Hodges as new members at Northwood Baptist Berkeley. Nicole’s last day with us will be April 27th. We will have a covered dish supper immediately following the worship service that morning. Invite your friends to worship with us that day. If the weather permits, our children will have a jump castle.
Don’t forget that this coming Sunday, April 13th, we have another Connect to Northwood Baptist Berkeley class. If you want to find out more about our congregation, plan on coming immediately following the worship service. We will feed you lunch. If you would like to come, please let Marie Taylor know.
The service is streamed weekly on Facebook
